Subject: Looking for DM IP: Logged
Message: I live in madison twsp (west middletown)OH. my cats caught a Deer mouse. my daughter wanted to keep the little thing. usually when the cats catch the mice i am unable to save the little guys. so needless to say the one i was able to save looks awful lonely. So anyone who lives near me would like to give me any you may find, we will give them a good home.

Message: You will need to sex your mouse before finding a companion, unless you want babies. Did you contact Sue K about her mouse? I think you will need to assure her that he will be safe from the cats.

Message: It's more difficult to sex deer mice than to sex domestic mice (house mice). The best way to sex them is by ano-genital distance, the distance between the anus and the genitals. In females this distance is less than in males. In deer mice this distance varies less than in house mice. In males the distance is about 3 mm in females it's about 1 mm. In females it almost looks like one structure, in males there are clearly 2 different structures. See these pictures:
