Subject: more info-- rehome/release IP: Logged
Message: Hi Paul,
I'd like to give the mouse to someone who
wants one.
I'm afraid it is not as friendly as it was
at one time, but I can hold and pet it. And,
my little niece just held it too.
Unfortunately, for a few days before I found
this site; (while on my original-release-plan),
I stopped interacting with him/her (?),
thinking it would be better to distance
ourselves. Once I read your response, I
started again, but, it was a bit shyer.
Last week it released itself twice.
The first time, it was my fault. I had always
kept him in a 75 gal aquarium with NO lid!!
Didn't figure he'd want to leave----
In fact, he never before tried. One night I
put a picture frame atop the tank, and I think
it gave a "ceiling" to his world for the first
time. He was out that night-- gone for about 8
hours. The next night we put a screen on top.
But, in two days he/she figured how to push
against it to get out again--(this time over 12
hours). We have a two story house, both times
we found him in the basement--seemed almost a
miracle that we did. But, after these two
excursions he seemed less friendly.
Before the escapes----my main way to interact
was to let him zoom 'on-and-about-me' while I
was on the loveseat. I'd put him on my chest.
He'd base out of the darkness of my cupped-hand
and would go to under my hair-->scoot back to
under my hand-->then -->under my hair,--> half-way around my neck,--> back again to my hand. etc.
On each venture he'd go a bit farther, mostly
moving along the shadows of my body.
I had to be very careful of my movement, but
he'd eventually zoom-around me -over-and-under.
He safely stayed on the loveseat---never
venturing off to the floor.
Of Interest: I did find out he was much
friendlier in the dark----
If I kept my hand under the big back cushions,
it created a dark hollow channel to run in.
On each of his loops around me, he'd go in the
tunnel and sometimes stop to check-in and play-nibble with my hand. (I couldn't see him, but I
could feel him gently take hold of one of my
fingers and try to play-wrestle with it).
I'm afraid THAT type of friendliness may be gone.
I've tried this usual game since his escapes,
and he jumped off the couch and onto the floor.
He let me catch him, but I'm so afraid he'll get
under the cabinets and to the poison that I
haven't tried the game with him since.
For all I know it might be a female. ?????
If you know someone local (don't want to ship this lil thing), please let me know.

Message: Paul---
I wrote the "more info--rehome/release" post
the other day --haven't heard back about any
takers, so, I thought I'd add some more info.
Update re: friendliness:
After he escaped twice last week, I took
him/her out once for our usual play.
In a short time he jumped off the loveseat.
So, other than giving him treats (by hand),
I pretty much have left him alone --untill --
last night---I just had to try again.
Anyway, I took him out with me on the loveseat
again, this time under an afghan---with all the
lights in the room on high. Well, he ran around
and played/explored (play-wrestling with my
fingers; gently biting my nails, etc.) for over
a half an hour before he got brave enough to
leave the darkness of the afghan and jump to
the floor. Luckily, he went to the same place
he did last time (under the baseboard heater)
Anyway, he/she is still pretty-darn friendly!
If you know of someone, please let me know.

Message: Awww, he's sounds so sweet. If you were closer to me I'd love to help you out, but alas, I couldn't travel that far... even if it was for a cute little mousey.
I hope you find a good home for him!
